Joginder Mann urges CM to accord district status to Phagwara

– Seeks comprehensive package for the overall development of Phagwara

Phagwara, 1 November 2022 : Former Punjab Minister Mr Joginder Singh Mann today urged the Punjab Chief Minister Mr Bhagwant Mann to accord district status to Phagwara along with a special package to boost overall development of the sub division.

Joginder Mann handed over 14 demands for welfare of Phagwara to the Chief Minister during his visit to the city. He apprised the Chief Minister that Phagwara is a major town of Punjab but due to administrative works residents have to go more than 40 kilometres away at Kapurthala, which is its district headquarter. So he urged Mr Bhagwant Mann that to facilitate people Phagwara must be made a district by including Phillaur, Goraya, Nakodar and few other parts SBS Nagar in it.

He also sought a grant worth Rs 101 crore for the overall development of Phagwara. He also demanded that Phagwara must be included in Smart City scheme for its holistic development. Joginder Mann also said that Khati is a historical village falling in Phagwara Sub Division related to Lord Parshuram ji, the Punjab government must announce a grant of RS 5 crore for development of village and shrine.

He also said that Most of the SC students have suffered due to discrepancies in post matric scholarship scheme the political leaders and officers, as duly highlighted in his report by then ACS Mr Kirpa Shankar Saroj, involved in this heinous crime must be put behind the bar and exemplary punishment must be ensured to them for ruining career of SC students. He also demanded that A state of the art convention centre must be constructed at Phagwara in memory of Bharat Ratna Baba Sahib Dr BR Ambedkar.

He also said that a religious tourism circuit comprising Khati dhaam-a holy place related to Lord Parshuram ji, Chak Hakim, where centuries old temple related to Sri Guru Ravidass ji is there, and Gurudwara Sukhchainana Sahib, associated with sixth Sikh Guru Sri Hargobind ji, should be developed to boost tourism in Phagwara and open new vistas of employment for youth. He also said that Chitti bein which enters Phagwara from Nasirabad till Maheru causes lot of havoc every year adding that this Bein causes lot of loss to farmers every year so it must be channelised on priority basis.

He also demanded that existing civil hospital in Phagwara must be upgraded with state of the art facilities and the work on trauma centre announced by your good self must start soon. He said that In order to impart quality education to youngsters a premier government college must be established in a Phagwara. Likewise, he said that To open new vistas of self employment for youth by imparting quality technical education a government polytechnic/ ITI must be set up at Phagwara.

He said that As many new localities have come up in and around Phagwara city, so 100% water supply and sewerage facility must be ensured in city. Likewise, he said that rural road network must be upgraded and strengthened for benefitting commuters. He also said that Phagwara is Hub of industry so a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) must be set up in Phagwara and incentives must be given to local industry.
