CENTRE GOVT PRIORITISE COVID MANAGEMENT OVER COMPENSATION TO VICTIMS
Delhi, 22 June 2021: A day after stating that Rs. 4 lakh ex-gratia aid cannot be given to COVID-19 victims’ families, the Center on Monday told the Supreme Court that it is prioritising COVID-19 management over the financial compensation. Funds were available but were being used for building healthcare infrastructure, economic recovery, etc.
While denying the idea of ex-gratia compensation govt. further explained that the finances of central and state govt. are under enough severe strain that the further compensating of Rs. 4 lakhs would be beyond the government’s fiscal affordability.
This whole incident came into existence when some people demanded justice by signing a petition for the help. After some further discussions, the court has reserved the petitions submitted by the people who have lost their loved ones amid the pandemic, for judgement.
