Canal Based Water Supply To Rural Belt in Rajpura, Ghanaur and Sanaur Soon
Patiala, July 5 2021 : The Construction of water treatment plants and laying of transmission pipeline under Canal based Water Supply Project coming up at MANDOLI, PABRA and NANOWAL, is going on full swing and the project would be completed within stipulated time, said officials of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (Public Health) Department, here, today.
The dream project that was chalked out and implemented by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh with the concerted efforts of MP Mrs Preneet Kaur, would supply 6.9 Crore Liters of safe drinking water to 404 villages of Ghanaur, Rajpura, Sanour blocks of District Patiala and and Khera block of District Fatehgarh Sahib, it would be completed at a cost of Rs 474.03 Crore.
It is worthwhile to mention that the ground water of these villages was badly affected due to fluoride content and the state government has decided to supply safe drinking water to the population of these blocks by launching this major project. So far a total of 253 kilometers of DI pipeline out of 623 KM has been laid besides, over 30 percent progress in construction of three Water treatment plants.
This project will be completed by January 2023. The sole purpose of this project is to provide safe drinking water to all the households. With the completion of this project, there will be no need to install individual RO plants in the households and with very low cost quality water will be supplied to the villagers and the health of the people will improve qualitatively because canal water consists of all the constituents required for the human body.
MLAs of Rajpura and Ghanaur, Hardial Singh Kamboj and Madan Lal Jalalpur whose constituencies own major share of the project, said that the canal based safe drinking water supply project would prove a boon for the residents of Rajpura and Ghanaur Blocks. Similarly, 69 villages of Sanaur area would also be benefited with the completion of the project, added Harinderpal Singh Harry Mann.
Giving further details of the project, Executive Engineer, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, Mr Ramanpreet Singh said that under this project, construction of water treatment Plants at Mandoli, Pabra and Nanowal already started. “The raw water will be taken from Arnouli Distributary at village Mandoli, Kauli Distributary at village Pabri and Rajpura Distributary at village Nanowal”, he added. He said that at the Mandoli treatment plant, daily 3.90 crore liters of safe drinking water supply to 204 villages will be given after treatment. This plant will cater 146 villages of Ghanaur assembly constituency, 12 villages Rajpura assembly constituency and 46 villages of Sanour assembly constituency by covering a population of 3.65 Lakhs.
At Pabra treatment plant, daily 1.80 crore liters of safe drinking water supply to 112 villages will be given after treatment that would cater 25 villages of Ghanaur assembly constituency, 62 village of Rajpura assembly constituency, 23 villages of Sanour assembly constituency and 2 villages of Fatehgarh Sahib assembly constituency by covering a population of 1.63 Lacs. At Nanowal treatment plant, daily 1.20 crore liters of safe drinking water supply to 92 villages will be given after treatment, that would cater 69 villages of Sirhind assembly constituency, 23 villages of Bassi Pathana assembly constituency by covering a population of 0.87 Lacs.
Under this project the work of internal improvement is also being covered under 2a (ii) covering all the village in the project. 171 KM PVC pipe line will be laid under Mandoli cluster to strengthen the distribution network in these villages and 18342 No. of New water connections will be to the consumers of these villages. 117 KM PVC pipe line will be laid under Pabra cluster to strengthen the distribution network in these villages and 9660 No. of new water connections will be to the consumers of these villages. 100.48 km PVC pipe line will be laid under Nanowal cluster to strengthen the distribution network in these villages and 4500 No. of new water connections will be to the consumers of these villages. Tendering is under process.
The total cost of this project will be Rs. 474.03 crore which includes Rs. 377.92 crore as capital cost and Rs. 96.11 crore as operation and maintenance cost for 10 years.
Treated water will be supplied to all the existing overhead service reservoirs of these villages, from water treatment plants which are being constructed at village Mandoli by laying 316 Km D.I. pipeline, at village Pabra by laying 176 Km D.I. pipeline and at village Nanowal by laying 131 Km D.I. pipeline. These transmission pipes will be provided alongside the various constructed / maintained roads and underground crossings will be carried out at various places.
