19 June 2021: Legendary Athlete and Asian Gold Medalist, Milkha Singh has passed away at the age of 91. He was suffering from Covid-19 and was battling with it for the last 19 days. He was hospitalized in PGIMER Chandigarh as soon as the test showed positive.

Milkha Singh’s spokesperson Ashok Kumar said that – “Legendary Indian Sprinter Shri Milkha Singh Ji was admitted in the ICU of hospital PGIMER, Chandigarh on 3rd June 2021 and was treated for covid there till 13th June 2021, when after putting up a valiant battle with covid, Milkha Singh Ji tested nagative. However, due to post-covid complications, he was shifted out of the hospital to medical ICU. But despite best of the efforts by the medical team, Milkha Singh Ji could not be retrieved from his critical condition and after a brave fight he left us all for heaven at 11:30 p.m. on 18th June 2021.”   

Upon this our Prime Minister Narendra Modi also posted a picture of this Legendary Athlete on twitter and wrote – “In the passing away of Shri Milkha Singh Ji, we have lost a colossal sportsperson, who captured the nation’s imagination and had a special place in the hearts of countless Indians. His inspiring personality endeared himself to millions. Anguished by his passing away.”

Actor, Director and Producer Farhan Akhtar also took to the twitter and shared a heartfelt letter dedicating to Flying Sikh. Farhan Akhtar played the lead role as Milkha Singh in movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Earlier on 13th June 2021 his wife Nirmal Kaur, former captain of India’s Volleyball Team passed due to Covid-19.
