STUBBLE BURNING FREE DISTRICT- 76 AWARENESS CAMPS IN OCTOBER OVER STUBBLE BURNING AND CROP RESIDUE MANAGEMENT
Ludhiana, 21 September 2021 : In view of the ensuing paddy harvesting season, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare is set to launch a massive awareness campaign in the district for persuading the farmers to shun the stubble burning and adopt crop residue management wholeheartedly for making Ludhiana free of this menace.
As many as 76 awareness camps and farmers’ meetings, 19 per week, would be organized in October this year by the department for which it has even deputed the teams of experts to sensitize the peasantry. Exhibitions of ultra-modern equipment which are useful in effective paddy straw management would also be held in the fields.
Disclosing further details, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that these teams would make strenuous efforts to disseminate the information about the hazardous effects of the paddy stubble burning which poses a danger to human health and the environment.
He said that these teams along with exhibiting the working of ultra-modern equipment would prove instrumental in awakening the farmers about the need for paddy stubble management.
He said that stubble burning destroys several important nutrients and other micronutrients of soil whereas its health gets improved drastically if the residue of stubble is harvested in the soil with the help of ultra-modern equipment. Sharma said that shunning the stubble burning would be a real tribute to our Gurus who gave the message of Pawan Guru Pani Pita Mata Dharat Mahtt to the people.
The Deputy Commissioner said that pamphlets and posters would also be distributed among the farmers for making them aware of the pollution caused by paddy burning beside the ways and means of managing the paddy stubble effectively. He said that the department would also felicitate those farmers who would not burn crop residue.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Narinder Singh Benipal said that paddy harvesting is expected to be started in the first week of October and appealed the farmers to not to indulge in the burning of paddy stubble in the larger interest of the people.
