Cashless care under Bhagwant Mann Govt’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana is accelerating response times in neurological emergencies, where every minute can determine survival

(Rajinder Kumar) CHANDIGARH, April 24 2026: Punjab’s healthcare system under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann is delivering tangible, life-saving outcomes on the ground, with the Punjab Government’s flagship Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana (MMSY) emerging as a decisive intervention in ensuring that financial constraints no longer stand between patients and critical treatment.
A recent case from Hoshiarpur reflects this transformation. Sandeep Singh, who suffered an acute ischemic stroke, was admitted to AIIMS Bathinda, where his treatment costing ₹32,300 was fully covered under the scheme. His father, Jagjeet Singh, said, “Thankfully, we had already registered for the Sehat Card. It covered the treatment expenses.” The case underscores how the pro-people policies of the Bhagwant Mann Government are directly protecting families from sudden financial distress during medical emergencies.
Driven by the vision of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann to build a robust and equitable healthcare system, the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana has already enrolled more than 40 lakh beneficiaries. The scheme provides cashless treatment coverage of up to ₹10 lakh across empanelled government and private hospitals, covering serious neurological conditions such as stroke, head injuries, seizures, and spinal trauma. By expanding access to advanced medical care, the Punjab Government is ensuring that quality healthcare is not a privilege, but a guaranteed right for every citizen of Punjab.
Medical experts across Punjab acknowledge that neurological emergencies are rising due to lifestyle-related illnesses such as hypertension and diabetes, along with road accidents and an ageing population. In such scenarios, the timely intervention enabled by the Bhagwant Mann Government’s policy framework is proving critical, especially in stroke cases where every minute can determine survival and recovery.
At Rajindra Hospital, Dr. Harish Kumar highlighted how the Bhagwant Mann Government’s cashless healthcare model is saving crucial time during emergencies. “In several emergency cases, surgery is taken up immediately, while documentation is completed later under protocol,” he said, adding, “This ensures critical time is not lost in arranging funds.” This shift reflects a governance model that prioritises human life over procedural delays.
Doctors in Ludhiana also pointed to a behavioural shift among patients, attributing it to the confidence instilled by the Bhagwant Mann Government’s healthcare guarantees. Dr. Harman Sobti, Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon & Spine Surgeon at Sobti Neuro Super Speciality Hospital and Mohandai Oswal Hospital, said, “Early symptoms like sudden weakness, facial drooping, or speech difficulty require immediate attention. Faster arrival at hospitals improves outcomes.” Reduced financial hesitation is enabling patients to seek timely care, a direct outcome of the Bhagwant Mann Government’s policy intervention.
Hospital-level data shows a steady rise in cashless neurosurgical admissions, indicating growing trust in the scheme and its effective implementation by the Punjab Government. While comprehensive neurological claim data is yet to be publicly consolidated, the upward trend clearly reflects expanding utilisation and impact.
Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh reiterated the Bhagwant Mann Government’s unwavering commitment to people-centric healthcare. “No patient should lose life or critical time due to the inability to arrange funds,” he stated, reinforcing the Bhagwant Mann Government’s resolve to deliver accessible and timely medical care to all.
While health experts stress the need for stronger preventive care and early diagnosis to reduce the long-term burden of neurological diseases, the foundation laid by the CM Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government through Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana marks a decisive step towards a healthier, more secure Punjab, where governance translates into real protection for every household.
