Amid Indo-Pak tensions, Centre asks states to activate emergency powers

(Rajinder Kumar) NewDelhi, 09 May 2025: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs issues an urgent directive for all the states and Union territories under Civil Defence rule, 1968, which allows the authorities to take quick decisions and emergency purchases where risk of threats and attacks are high.

Under section 11 of Civil Defence rule (!968), allows state Government to:

– take immediate action to protect public and property.

– ensures smooth running of essential services such as water, communication, hospitals, power in case of any urgency.

– directly buy equipment or instruments needed for civil defence without delays in approval.
