ADC PHAGWARA REVIEWS PREPAREDNESS IN NIGHT SHELTERS IN WAKE OF ENSUING WINTER SEASON
– MOVE AIMED AT GIVING RELIEF TO HOMELESS PEOPLE FROM COLD WEATHER
Phagwara, 16 November 2022 : In a humanitarian gesture to keep homeless people from cold temperatures ahead of the winter season, Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr Nayan Jassal on Wednesday reviewed the preparedness in the four night shelters in the city.
Chairing a meeting here today, the Additional Deputy Commissioner said that there are four night shelters in the city at the local Municipal Corporation office, Hadiabad, Urban Estate and Adarsh Nagar. She said that these night shelters are well equipped to provide warm refuge to all shelter-less people in the city. She said that Phagwara administration is duty bound to cover the entire homeless population to provide them with a warm refuge so that they don’t face any hardship during the ensuing winter season.
She directed the officers to ensure that the administration’s team personally reaches the homeless people and take them to night shelters. Reviewing the arrangements she directed the officials to ensure that all the homeless people get shelter at these night shelters. Reiterating firm commitment of the state government led by Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Mann to serve underprivileged sections, she called upon people to join hands with district administration in its endeavor.
She also urged the NGOs to come forward to help the poor and needy people during the winter season. She categorically mentioned that the Phagwara administration will leave no stone unturned to help shelter less people during the winter season. She also revealed that due to the untiring efforts of the Phagwara administration, the state government has approved construction of a new night shelter in the city. She said that the work on construction of this will also start soon adding that it will give major relief to people.
