What stopped you from declaring Phagwara a district in last 60 days of your Tenure : Mann asks Channi
Says that he had flagged issue on 6 and 28 November before CM but he remained apathetic
Phagwara, 26 January 2022 : Former Punjab Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Phagwara Joginder Singh Mann today criticised Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi for making false promise to people of Phagwara assembly segment to accord district status to Phagwara.
In a statement issued here today, he asked the Chief Minister that what stopped him from declaring Phagwara a district during last 60 days of his tenure. He reminded the Chief Minister that he had himself raised this issue before the CM during his visit in city at Lord Vishwakarma Temple on 6 November and subsequently at Khaati on 28 November. Similarly he said that not only this but later on he had raised this issue in meeting with the CM and other officers at Chandigarh twice.
However, he said that unfortunately none of them bothered to declare Phagwara a district despite of the fact that it is the long pending demand of the people of Phagwara. He said that peeved over this apathetic attitude of the Congress government he had severed his five decades long association with party. But he said that now when Congress is losing ground in Phagwara all of the sudden CM is talking about making Phagwara a district.
He asked the CM to explain that why this love was not there when he was in power. He said that the real reason is that Congress don’t want to give district status to Phagwara. He said that had CM been so sincere then this demand could have been fulfilled earlier only. He also slammed Phagwara MLA for remaining tight lipped about the vital issues pertaining to Phagwara during the regime of Congress.
