Sunday Exclusive : In connivance with officers Tax evasion starts early in Jalandhar
Jalandhar, 21 November 2021 : Thanks to the connivance of the Excise and taxation officers, the tax evasion in Jalandhar starts early in the day as the vehicles carrying unbilled goods enter in the city openly.
In the morning vehicles including buses can be seen making a beeline to unload the non taxed goods in the outer areas of the city. Though the buses are meant for carrying passengers but in connivance with the tax officers these are now openly being used to illegally supply the goods in the city. These goods are unloaded or dropped at a particular point from where small vehicles are used to ferry them inside the city.
In this whole process huge loss is incurred to state exchequer. But it is not that the taxation department is unknown to this but highly placed sources revealed that the top brass of the taxation officers are infact hand in glove with the transport mafia to facilitate them. The officers are paid huge amount every month for keeping a blind eye towards the entire illegal activity.
An officer of the taxation department on the condition of anonymity said that though political pressure is there to allow this illegal activity but the high officers are also getting hefty amount in lieu of this illegal Bussiness. The officer further said that taxation officers are targeting only those transport which are not paying money to them and easy Go is being given to others who are giving hefty bribes to them. This is a huge scandal and unfortunately the officers right from Jalandhar office till Patiala and Chandigarh are indulged in it, the officer added.
