SOCIAL JUSTICE DEPARTMENT CHIDES CM’S CLAIM FOR EFFECTIVE SERVICE DELIVERY
Jalandhar, August 2 2021 : Despite of tall claims of the Chief Minister Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh to effectively deliver citizen services to people the Social Justice and Empowerment department is failing in this cause due to acute shortage of manpower in the district.
Imagine a district, like Jalandhar, in which lakhs of beneficiaries are approaching the department every day for seeking relief through government schemes only one District Welfare Officer, One Tehsil Welfare Officer, One Senior Assistant and three peons are ruling the roost. Ideally the district which has five tehsils Jalandhar I, Jalandhar II, Nakodar, Phillaur and Shahkot has sanctioned posts of five Tehsil Welfare officers, Clerks and Peons. But most of the posts are lying vacant as out of 15 sanctioned posts only four are filled as Jalandhar II has Tehsil Welfare Officer whereas peons are posted only in Jalandhar I, Jalandhar II and Phillaur.
As a result two offices of Tehsil Welfare Officer in Shahot and Nakodar are lying closed. Sources said that most of the officers and clerks prefer to get their favourite postings by exerting political pressure or through other tantrums. This has resulted in total collapse of welfare schemes in the district.
Similarly, chiding the hoax claims of Captain government that entire working is being conducted through e-office, this office do not have a single internet connection. The result is entire work has been jeopardized in the office and piles of files regarding Post Matric Scholarship scheme, Adarsh Gram Yojna, Aashirwad and other welfare schemes are lying untouched in the office. Sources also revealed that the Jalandhar office due to dearth of dealing employees has not even responded to any official communication neither to head office nor to the district administration.
The sorry state of affairs can be well judged from the fact that in the heart of Doaba where more than 40% population belongs to SC community the welfare work has been affected adversely. As a result of which a lot of resentment is prevailing amongst the SC community which can be detrimental for the government in the ensuing polls in 2022.
