Phagwara, July 25 2021 : Former Punjab Minister and Chairman of Punjab Agro Industries Corporation Joginder Singh Mann today sought the intervention of the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to set up a chair on name of Baba Jeewan Singh ji in universities of state besides declaring gazette holidays to mark parkash purab and martyrdom day of legendary Sikh warrior.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Mann lauded the state government for making elaborate arrangements celebrate 400th parkash purab of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji. However, he said that it is unfortunate that during these celebrations the Punjab government has forgotten Baba Jeewan Singh ji, a devout follower of the ninth and tenth guru, who had rendered marvelous service to the Sikh panth by bringing back the seesh of Guru Teg Bahadur ji from Chandni chowk (Delhi) to Sri Anandpur Sahib. He said that it is a historic fact that Baba Jeevan Singh ji confronted unimaginable hardships during his journey from Delhi to Sri Anandpur Sahib but he faced them bravely adding that the exemplary courage exhibited by this legendary Sikh warrior hardly finds any parallel in the entire Sikh history.

The former Punjab Minister said that it is a fact that Baba Jeevan Singh Ji symbolized an indomitable spirit of sacrifice, service, equality, harmony, devotion and commitment for the well-being of Sikh Panth. He said that Baba Jeewan ji’s service and dedication towards Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji and his son Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji is unsurpassable and the unprecedented act of selfless service by Baba Jeewan Singh ji for bringing the head (sis) of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji from Delhi to Sri Anandpur Sahib, without caring for his life and handing it over to Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji with utmost respect and reverence is source of inspiration for the younger generations. He said that tenth sikh Guru Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji fondly embraced his devout Sikh for his rare act of valour and dedication but unfortunately the state government seems to have forgotten the contribution of this devout Sikh.

Mann said that around 27 lakh followers of Baba Jeewan Singh ji in the state are peeved over the fact when crores of Rupees are being spent on several other projects the state government has not even announced a single project to showcase the contribution of this legendary Sikh martyr to coming generations. He said that this needs to be done especially when we are celebrating the 400th parkash purab of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji. In wake of all these, he urged the Chief Minister to set up a chair in the universities of the state on name of Baba Jiwan Singh ji to encourage research on his life, role in Sikh history and philosophy. Likewise, he also also requested the Chief Minister to announce a gazetted holiday to mark the parkash purab and martyrdom day of the legendary warrior. He said that this will be a humble and befitting tribute to one of the iconic martyrs of the Sikh history and will ever remind our younger generations about exemplary courage exhibited by this legendary Sikh warrior, which hardly finds any parallel in the entire Sikh history.
