Chandigarh, July 14, 2021: Schools and coaching institutes will partially reopen in Chandigarh from July 19, Chandigarh administration said in its latest order on Tuesday as it continued to ease the restrictions imposed during the deadly second wave of the pandemic in March.

Schools in Chandigarh will reopen on July 19 for students from Classes 9 to 12, the order said. Parents’ authorisation will be essential for sending their wards to school. Meanwhile, online teaching will continue.

Coaching institutes can also reopen their in-person teaching for students on the condition that staff and students attending their sessions have taken at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine. Additionally, Covid protocols must be followed strictly, the order said.

The administration also made an upward revision of its limit on social gatherings—indoor gatherings can now have up to 200 people or have up to 50 per cent of the venue’s capacity, whichever is fewer.  Guests at these events and staff of hotels or banquet halls must have had at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine or must have tested negative in an RT-PCR test taken no more than 72 hours ago.

The Rock Garden, which has been closed to patrons so far, will reopen, as well museums, and Covid-19 protocols must be followed strictly. Cinema halls and spas can function at 50 per cent of their capacity. The development comes as Chandigarh continue to report a decline in Covid-19 infections.
