PSPCL INITIATES CRACKDOWN AGAINST POWER THEFT IN MOHALI CIRCLE
– IMPOSES FINE IN TUNE OF RS. 59.11 LAKHS AGAINST 92 CONSUMERS
– POWER MINISTER URGES CONSUMERS TO REGISTER COMPLAINTS OF POWER THEFT
Chandigarh, 5 June 2022 : Dealing power theft complaints sternly, PSPCL teams have conducted raids in different parts of Mohali Circle and fine in tune of Rs. 59.11 lakhs have been imposed against 92 consumers for power theft and unauthorised usage.
In a press communique issued here on Sunday, Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO informed that PSPCL teams have conducted raids in various villages included Kandala, Naraingarh, Dhakauli, Thuha etc. under Zirakpur and Banur sub-divisions. He mentioned that 16 cases of power theft registered by different teams, while four cases of unauthorized usage of electricity have also been found during this entire exercise and fine in tune of Rs. 16.67 lakhs have been imposed on these tainted consumers.
The Cabinet Minister also informed that the checking drive was also carried out in village Jhampur and Sector 123 of Mohali division and 29 cases of theft and unauthorized usage of electricity are registered as well as fine of Rs. 21.44 lakh have also been imposed. “Some electricity meters have been found dubious and these teams sealed them on the spot and sent to the lab for further & necessary examination,” he added.
Elaborating more Harbhajan Singh ETO said that 19 cases of electricity theft and 24 cases of unauthorized usage of electricity registered during checking in villages Sarsini, Togapur, Lalru, Lalru Mandi and Dhangerha under Lalru division apart from aforementioned cases and PSPCL imposed a total fine of Rs. 21 lakh against these consumers.
Power Minister said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is committed to control the menace of power theft and there are clear instructions to the PSPCL to take strict action against tainted consumers. He said that the teams of the enforcement and distribution wings are conducting regular checking in all zones of PSPCL and taking stern actions besides imposing hefty fine.
Harbhajan Singh ETO also urged to all consumers to put their feet forward for controlling the menace of power theft.
