OFFICE OF CEO PUNJAB HOLDS MEETING WITH POLITICAL PARTIES, HANDS OVER CDS OF FINAL PUBLICATION OF ELECTORAL (WITHOUT PHOTOS)
– After publication of final electoral roll, the period of continuous updation begins
– 76.78 percent of citizens of Punjab have linked their Aadhar with Voter card on voluntary basis
Chandigarh, 5 January 2023 : The office of the Chief Electoral Officer Punjab on Thursday held a meeting with the representatives of political parties to handover the CDs of the final publication of the electoral roll (without photos). Special drive to update the voter list— Special Summary Revision-2023— has been concluded with the publication of the final electoral roll, paving the way for the continuous updation of the voter list.
During the meeting, the representatives of the political parties were apprised that as per the directions of the Election Commission of India, the process of collection of the Aadhar number of registered electors on a Voluntary Basis is being carried out successfully in the state of Punjab and 76.78 percents electors have already linked their Aadhar with Voter card on a voluntary basis. The drive to link Aadhar number with Voter card will be carried out till March 31, 2023.
In the meeting representatives of political parties were briefed about the robustness of the electoral process and demonstrated how transparency has been introduced at every step utilizing technology. Seeking their cooperation in the mission to improve the health of the electoral roll, political parties were informed that citizens can very easily verify and make changes/corrections in their electoral details through online mode by either logging on to the voter portal www.nvsp.in or downloading the Voter Helpline App (available on both Android and iOS version).
Appreciating the initiatives of the Election Commission of India including providing a postal ballot facility to 80 plus electors and Persons with Disability, the representatives of political parties said that the process of linking Aadhar with voter card will help in a big way in improving the health of the electoral roll.
The representatives of the political parties who attended the meeting included Sh. Ajit Singh of Bahujan Samaj Party, Sh. Charanjit Singh Brar of Shiromani Akali Dal, Sh. Gurinder Singh of the Nationalist Congress Party.
