Jalandhar, 26 January 2022 : Further giving impetus to the amusement activities at City’s oldest park, district administration Jalandhar today threw open `Burma Bridge’ (an adventurous activity) at Nikku Park costing nearly Rs. 7 lakh.
Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that this new recreational activity would further add to the charm of this amusement park where a large number of other entertainment facilities were also being provided by the administration at a nominal cost.
Throwing light on the new amusement facility here, the DC said that the Burma Bridge consists of a long rope bridge that has been suspended at a height. One can take the adventurous walk across the bridge consisting of a long thick rope forming the base and two ropes on the sides to hold on to maintain balance, he added. He further mentioned that both the bridges are connected with three huts, where children during their adventurous walk could spend some time to rest.
While reiterating his commitment to restore the pristine glory of this amusement park, Mr. Thori said that a slew of initiatives were already taken here earlier including a renovation and facelift project at an outlay of Rs. 12 lakh. Wall paintings, installation of CCTV cameras, re-functioning of shut down rides and swings, installation of the cricket bowling machine besides others were ensured earlier, he said.
Spread in 4.5 acres of land, Nikku Park is located at the heart of the city and was in dilapidated conditions due to lack of maintenance as it remained shut due to COVID-19 pandemic for almost a year. The Deputy Commissioner had issued financial assistance worth Rs. 12 lakh for this park after taking stock of its condition.
Pointing out further, Manager Nikku Park SS Sidhu said that all the main swings and rides in the park including amusement bus, fountain, train, music fountains, flood lights, break dance swing and cricket bowling facility, and many more have been made operational lately. He said that now this new Burma Park would become another point of attraction at this park.
