NEED TO BE VIGILANT AMID NEW VARIANT ‘OMICRON’: GHANSHYAM THORI
JALANDHAR, 28 OVEMBER 2021 : Amid reports of new variant called as ‘Omicron’, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Sunday appealed that there is no need to be panicked but all of us should be more vigilant to keep this variant at bay.
Urging people to complete their both doses of COVID-19 vaccine, the Deputy Commissioner asked those beneficiaries, who had got only their single dose, to get second dose as early as possible, which could be immensely beneficial to contain the virus. He said that the vaccination drive was going on expeditious mode across district so that beneficiaries must get their doses in larger public interest. He said that about 90 percent beneficiaries had taken first does while the 50 percent received second one. The district has recorded 22,78,273 doses so far with 1468326 first doses and 8,09,947 second doses.
Referring to Omicron variant detected in some countries, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the Indian council of Medical Research (ICMR) had already made it clear that there is no need to panic but people should take their second dose. He also requested the people not to adopt lax approach in adhering to all preventive measures so that all could be stay safe and secure. ‘Vigilance and appropriate prevention’ is necessitated amid present circumstances; the Deputy Commissioner said that vaccination could be helpful to contain the virus.
