MC STARTS CRACKDOWN AGAINST SINGLE USE PLASTIC IN PHAGWARA
– ISSUES 20 CHALLANS WORTH RS 70,000 AND CONFISCATES 50 KG PLASTIC
– COMMISSIONER GIVES CLARION CALL TO MAKE PHAGWARA PLASTIC FREE CITY
– SAYS ALONG WITH MASS AWARENESS DRIVE STRICT ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AGAINST PEOPLE USING SINGLE USE PLASTIC
Phagwara, 18 October 2022 : Keeping in view the hazardous effects of plastic on environment and human health, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Phagwara Dr. Nayan Jassal today gave clarion call to people for joining their hands to make Phagwara a plastic free city.
Launching a massive drive, initialized by the Punjab Pollution Control Board, for making Phagwara plastic free, the MC Commissioner said that plastic plays a major havoc with the health of the residents due to which all of us should join hands to get rid of this menace. Meanwhile, on first day of drive against plastic the civic body issued 20 challans worth Rs 70000 and confiscated 50 kg of plastic bags. Commissioner said that keeping in view the lurking danger to the environment, an anti-plastic campaign has been initiated in the city. She said that the main aim of the campaign was to make people aware about the bad effects of plastic.
She said that this campaign will be transformed into a mass movement with the proactive support of people. She also said that the officers in the civic body have been urged to keep the endeavor alive by carrying it home and making our children also a part of the campaign against the menace. She also said that the civic will also rope in the people from all walks of life to change the look of the city.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner also said that the civic body administration will not leave any stone unturned to make this campaign a huge success. She also said that a special campaign will also be embarked in coming days as a crackdown against the plastic. She said that during this campaign strict action will be taken against people flouting the norms by using single use plastic in the city adding that no laxity in this drive will be tolerated.
