MASSIVE RESPONSE TO SPECIAL CAMPS AS 15723 VOTERS PARTICIPATE ACROSS 1974 BOOTHS
Jalandhar, 07 November 2021 : With as many as 15723 voters participated on Saturday, the booth level special camps organized by district administration today witnessed massive response from people. The camps were held to facilitate the voters for verifications of their names, new registrations, changes in the voter details and corrections in the Voter Id Cards for the upcoming Assembly Elections 2022.
Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) on second consecutive day organized these camps at all the 1974 polling booths across the district to facilitate the voters. This included 242 booths in Phillaur assembly constituency, likewise 252 in Nakodar, 250 Shahkot, 228 Kartarpur, 183 Jalandhar West, 190 Jalandhar Central, 196 Jalandhar North, 216 Jalandhar Cantt, and 217 booths in Adampur assembly constituency.
Thori said that these camps received massive response as a total of 15723 people participated for various services including 9008 people applied for getting themselves registered as voters while 3426 have filled form 7, 2932 have filled form 8, and 317 filled form 8A and 196 have filled form 6. Of these, 3830 visitors between age group 18-19 have applied for votes, thereby becoming first time voters. The DC visited special camp held at government girls senior secondary school Nehru Gardan where he interacted with young voters besides motivating them to participate in democratic process by exercising their right to franchise.
The staff deputed during these camps facilitated the people by filling up their forms thereby enabling them to participate in the democratic process. The Election Registration Officers (ERO) and Assistant Election Registration Officers (AEROs) of the respected constituencies also visited the polling booths and interacted with the people about the ongoing process.
Thori urged the people to derive maximum benefits from these camps to become an active partner in the democratic process in the country. He also said that these camps would play an instrumental role in further strengthening the democratic system in the country. These camps were being organized to ensure that every eligible voter was covered in the voter list.
Notably, the new eligible voters could also register themselves online through National Voter Services Portal (NVSP). He said that more camps would be held on November 20, 21 across districts adding urged people to take maximum benefit of these camps.
