Ludhiana, 05 October 2021 :\u00a0 <\/strong>Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Tuesday directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to visit the grain markets in their jurisdictions daily to ensure the smooth and hassle-free paddy procurement.<\/p>\n

To assess arrangements for paddy procurement in the mandis, Deputy Commissioner took stock of operations in Salem Tabri grain market and showed satisfaction.<\/p>\n

He asked the officers to make sure that every single grain of paddy gets procured and lifted without any sort of delay. He said that till today, 11886 tonnes of paddy has arrived in the grain markets of the Ludhiana and payment worth Rs 4.20 crore has also been made to the farmers.<\/p>\n

He said that all-out efforts must also be made for proper lifting of the grains and added that the state government has already evolved an effective mechanism for lifting paddy within 48 hours of the procurement.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner stated arrangements have also been made to ensure that the payment of grains also made to the farmers within a stipulated time frame so that they do not face any inconvenience for the sale of their produce in the grain markets.<\/p>\n

Sharma said sufficient arrangements in mandis including sheds for the farmers, potable water supply and equipment to monitor the quality of paddy in procurement centres, have been ensured.<\/p>\n

He said that the apart from 108 regular grain markets in the Ludhiana, the administration have also marked 94 temporary yards and 203 mandi yards in Mills to decongest the markets for maintaining social distancing during the operations and appealed to the farmers to bring moisture-free grains to the market and avoid burning of paddy stubble, which causes a major environmental hazard.<\/p>\n

During interaction with the farmers, he asked them about the procurement operations and also inquired about any issue.<\/p>\n
