(Rajinder Kumar) CHANDIGARH; 12th August 2026: <\/strong>Punjab Finance Minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Harpal Singh Cheema tore into \u2018Beadbi Party\u2019 the (Shiromani Akali Dal) and the \u2018ED Party\u2019 (BJP) condemning the Akali Dal\u2019s recent statements regarding a communication between the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Director-General of Police (DGP).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Addressing a press conference, Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said, “The \u2018Chitta Party’ (SAD) has completely abandoned its principles and is now acting as a spokesperson for the \u2018ED Party’ (BJP) and central investigative agencies. It is baffling how a communication addressed to the DGP by the ED is being weaponised by the Akali Dal to defame the Aam Aadmi Party.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He continued, “This clearly exposes that SAD is functioning as an extended wing and spokesperson of the BJP, desperately trying to find a political lease on life.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Reminding the public of the dark era between 2007 and 2017, he held the erstwhile SAD-BJP government directly responsible for ruining Punjab\u2019s social fabric, economy, and youth. He said, “The people of Punjab have not forgotten the rampant drug menace (Chitta), the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and the widespread corruption that earned the state the tragic label of Udta Punjab.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“During the 10 years of SAD-BJP rule, Punjab was devastated on all fronts. Parents were forced to sell their lands, homes, and life savings just to send their children abroad out of fear that the drug mafia nurtured by the government would destroy their future,” the Minister asserted.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Targeting the BJP-led Union Government, the AAP leader called out the ruling dispensation at the Centre for systematically undermining the Constitution drafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He said, “Central agencies like the ED, CBI, and Income Tax are regularly deployed to intimidate opposition leaders, threaten local administration, and subvert elected State Governments across the country, pointing to instances in West Bengal, Bihar, and targeting AAP leadership.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“The BJP has no faith in democratic values or the Constitution. Whenever elections approach or an opposition government stands firm, the machinery of central agencies is unleashed to threaten political opponents and break governments,” he added.<\/p>\n

Concluding his address, Harpal Singh Cheema emphasised that the people of Punjab are well aware of the opportunistic politics of the Akali Dal and its historical alliance with the BJP. He said, “A party that once claimed to represent Punjab\u2019s interests has now stooped to peddling narratives dictated by central agencies just to save its own political skin. The people of Punjab see through these cheap political stunts. Neither the ED nor Akali Dal will succeed in misleading Punjabis or derailing the progressive governance of the AAP government”.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
