(Rajinder Kumar) CHANDIGARH; 21 May 2026:<\/strong> There are moments in life when time does not just slow down. It breaks. For 62-year-old Bhur Kaur, that moment arrived without warning. She had lived with diabetes and hypertension for nearly 15 to 16 years. It had become part of her routine, almost normal in daily life.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Medicines, check-ups, adjustments. Nothing unusual. Until one day, her body stopped responding. Her blood sugar suddenly rose to 550 mg\/dL. Within moments, she collapsed. Unconscious. Unresponsive. Fighting for survival.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Her family did not have time to think. They only had time to act. \u201cWe were just praying and running at the same time,\u201d said her daughter-in-law Paramjeet. \u201cThere was no thinking, only panic.\u201d For her son Harpal, a Pathi, who lives a life of devotion at the Gurdwara, the moment felt unreal. It was as if faith itself was being tested in its hardest form.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*A Life Hanging by Seconds*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At Kashmiri Heart Care Centre, Sunam, Sangrur, what arrived was a medical emergency at the edge of collapse. Dr. Anshuman Phull, Clinical Cardiologist and Managing Director, remembers the condition clearly. \u201cBhur Kaur was brought in a critically unstable condition with Diabetic Ketoacidosis, severe infection, and acute respiratory failure,\u201d he said. \u201cHer oxygen levels were falling, her heart was unstable, and she had entered a dangerous metabolic imbalance.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Her blood sugar of 550 mg\/dL had pushed her body into a life-threatening spiral. Severe dehydration. Electrolyte imbalance. Organ stress. And then came the silent trigger, sepsis, a condition where infection begins attacking the body itself. \u201cIn such cases, every hour matters,\u201d Dr. Anshuman Phull, said. \u201cSometimes even minutes decide survival.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*Inside ICU, Battle for Life*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The ICU became a place where every second carried weight. Oxygen support. IV insulin. Antibiotics. Fluids. Electrolyte correction. Continuous monitoring.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Nothing could wait. \u201cDuring the first hours, the focus was only on stabilising life,\u201d Dr. Anshuman Phull, said. \u201cWe were treating breathing failure, infection, and metabolic collapse at the same time.\u201d Outside the ICU, the family waited in silence. Praying. Hoping. Holding on.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Then slowly, life began to return. By the third day, the first signs of recovery appeared. Her oxygen levels improved.Infection markers started to fall. Her body began responding to treatment. And then came the most important sign. Consciousness returned. \u201cIt was the first real moment of relief,\u201d the doctor said. \u201cWe knew she was coming back.\u201d A patient who had been on the edge of death was slowly returning to life.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana Changed Everything*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Amid the medical emergency, one factor played a crucial role, the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana (MMSY). Doctors say it ensured something vital. There was no delay in treatment. \u201cIn emergencies like this, delay can cost a life,\u201d Dr. Anshuman Phull said. \u201cBecause the patient was covered under the scheme, ICU care and emergency treatment began immediately.\u201d No financial hesitation. No waiting. Only immediate action.<\/p>\n

In critical cases, that speed often becomes the difference between life and death.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*\u201cI got a Second Life\u201d*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now recovering, Bhur Kaur speaks softly, still tired from what she went through but deeply grateful.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do not remember everything,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I know I was very serious. I am thankful to the doctors and the government. Because of the Sehat Card, I am alive today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simple words, but heavy with meaning.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*A life that Nearly Ended was Pulled Back in Time*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A family that held on and a system that responded. For Harpal and Paramjeet, the experience will never fade. \u201cOne moment she was with us. The next she was unconscious,\u201d Harpal said. \u201cWe will always be grateful she got help in time.\u201d Paramjeet added, \u201cWe had faith and we also needed support. We got both.\u201d<\/p>\n

*More Than Recovery*<\/p>\n

Bhur Kaur\u2019s story is not just about a medical emergency. It is about how quickly life can change. It is about how fragile survival becomes when illness strikes without warning. And it is about what happens when urgent care meets timely support.<\/p>\n
