(Rajinder Kumar) Chandigarh, 14 July 2025: <\/strong>Reiterating that his government is duty-bound to curb sacrilege incidents in the state, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday presented the Punjab Prevention of Crime Against Religious Scriptures Bill, 2025 in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.<\/p>\n

Introducing the bill on the floor of the House, the Chief Minister said that this is an emotive and critical issue that concerns every Punjabi. He emphasized that the matter has grave repercussions not only in the present but also for future generations. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that stringent punishment for this unpardonable offence is the need of the hour to serve as a deterrent to criminals.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister reiterated that Punjab is a sacred land of great Gurus, saints, and seers who have shown the path of mutual love and tolerance. However, he lamented that certain anti-Punjab forces have been attempting to destroy the state\u2019s social fabric by orchestrating sacrilegious acts of holy granths since 2016. Bhagwant Singh Mann reaffirmed the state government\u2019s firm commitment to ensuring exemplary punishment for the perpetrators of such incidents.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister added that the government had consulted leading legal experts to draft robust legislation that prevents offenders from evading severe consequences\u2014including sternest punishment for such heinous crimes. Reaffirming his government\u2019s dedication to justice, he asserted that every individual involved in these sacrilegious acts, whether directly or indirectly, would face exemplary punishment. Bhagwant Singh Mann said it is the solemn duty of the state government to ensure that these dreaded criminals are held accountable for their actions.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, taking a swipe at the Congress party, the Chief Minister criticized the opposition for its apparent indifference to the issue. Speaking to media persons, he remarked that incidents such as Bargari and Behbal Kalan have deeply wounded the psyche of every Punjabi. Unfortunately, he added, Congress leaders have sought more time to discuss the bill, reflecting their lack of seriousness toward the matter. Meanwhile l. Bhagwant Singh Mann expressed hope that when the discussion on the bill resumes on Tuesday, Congress leaders will come prepared so that it can be passed unanimously.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
