In Jalandhar Payments worth Rs. 22.49 crore made to farmers for the purchase of paddy : DC Ghanshyam Thori

Jalandhar, 07 October 2021 :  Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Thursday informed that payment of Rs. 22.49 crore has been made for the procurement of paddy so far in the district.

Disclosing this, the DC informed that a total of 26,962 metric tonnes of Paddy has been procured from the procurement centres of Jalandhar to the date.

He further said that till October 7, 2021, a total of 27458 MT paddy has arrived at all 78 purchase centres in the district of which 26962 MT was purchased.

Reiterating state government’s commitment to procuring every single foodgrains of farmers on priority, he said that elaborate arrangements and efforts have been made in the Mandia to ensure smooth procurement, lifting and payment of paddy so that farmers do not have to face any issue to sell their produce.

He said that paddy procurement and lifting is running smoothly and according to the state government’s directions payments worth Rs. 22.49 crore have been made to farmers within stipulated time frame.

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner has directed the Chiefs of the procurement agencies to expedite the process of procurement and lifting of the paddy from the mandis in the district. He said that any sort of laxity in performing this duty was totally unwarranted and undesirable.

He said that the produce of farmers’ need to be purchased and lifted at the earliest to facilitate them.

The Deputy Commissioner also asked the heads of the procurement agencies to visit mandis daily to take stock of the entire operations at ground level. He said that the officers must undertake regular visits in the grain markets under their jurisdiction and submit the daily report to him for regular monitoring.

Thori asked them to minutely observe the procurement operations so as to ensure that the stocks of grains do not pile up in the market and its prompt lifting was ensured at the earliest.
