Doaba strongman Chaudhary Santokh Singh likely to be new acting President of Punjab Congress

Chandigarh, July 15 2021 : Doaba strongman and Lok Sabha MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh is all set to become the acting President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.

Highly placed sources in the Congress party said that along with appointment of firebrand Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu as Pradesh Congress Chief the Congress high command is likely to appoint two working Presidents in the state. These working presidents will be Chaudhary Santokh Singh and Vijay Inder Singla. While Chaudhary Santokh Singh is currently Lok Sabha MP from
Jalandhar, Singla is PWD Minister in incumbent state government.

Chaudhary Santokh Singh will be second Dalit leader from Jalandhar to hold this post as earlier Lok
sabha MP from Jalandhar Mohinder Singh Kay Pee had held the same post around a decade ago. Two time MP from Jalandhar is a hardcore Congressman who had been remained a Minister in governments headed by Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Captain Amarinder Singh. A well read and suave Dalit face of Congress Chaudhary Santokh Singh had won the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat consecutively in 2014 and 2019 due to which his stature in Congress has enhanced manifolds.

Chaudhry Santokh Singh is son of former Punjab Minister and Dalit stalwart Master Gurbanta Singh who remained Minister in governments of Partap Singh Kairon and Giani Zail Singh. His father was a confident of Dalit leader Babu Jagjivan Ram and played a key role in reconstruction of state in the post-independence era. With this elevation Chaudhary Santokh Singh has now emerged as new Dalit face of Congress by filling the void that has been felt since long.
