DC ORDERS REGISTRATION OF FIRs AGAINST THOSE SELLING UNAUTHORIZED POTATO SEEDS
ALSO FORMS JOINT TEAMS OF ADMINISTRATION, HORTICULTURE AND AGRICULTURE OFFICERS TO CHECK STOCKING OF ILLEGAL SEEDS AT COLD STORES
JALANDHAR, 26 FEBRUARY 2022 : Taking a serious note on the memorandum submitted by farmers’ association, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Ghanshyam Thori today directed the officials to launch a crackdown against the unauthorized and illegal sale of potato seeds in the district. He also asked the officials to ensure registration of FIRs against those selling these unauthorized seeds while launching a special checking drive at cold stores across the district.
Divulging the details, the DC said that it has come to his knowledge that some people are indulging in the illegal activity of selling unauthorized potato seeds by exporting such seeds from other states. He said that the sub division level joint teams of civil administration, agriculture department and horticulture department under the supervision of SDMs concerned have been formed with immediate effect so that an extensive checking drive at cold storages in the district could be launched at the earliest.
Mr. Thori said that the joint teams accompanied by Police Officials would check cold stores and ensure stern action in case unauthorized potato seeds are recovered, if any. He also stated that the FIRs would be registered in such cases and any kind of laxity in this task would be highly unwarranted. Notably, the representatives of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) and Potato See Growers’ Association had met the deputy commissioner to apprise him about this illegal activity, upon which acting swiftly the DC has ordered crackdown against such practices.
