DC KICKSTARTS PLANTATION DRIVE ON 71TH VAN MAHOTSAV, 16K SAPLINGS PLANTED IN A SINGLE DAY
JALANDHAR, 24 AUGUST 2021 : Giving a fillip to the plantation drive in the district, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori has launched a mega plantation drive by planting saplings at district administrative complex on Tuesday on the occasion of 71th `Van Mahotsav’. As many as 16410 saplings were planted at around 30 different locations in the district in a single day after the launching of this drive from DC Complex.
Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner said that the forest department had selected 30 locations in the district, where over 16 thousands saplings were planted to mark the ‘Van Mahotsav’. With the help of various government and non-government organizations, plantation drive was carried out throughout the district including village Muthada Kalan, Phillaur City, Goraya, Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur, Civil Hospital Phillaur, DAV Public School Phillaur, Police Station Noormahal, Noormahal City, KV-II, KV-III, village Jodhe, Eidgah, Urban Estate Phase-1 and Dhina, CRPF campus, Military Area Jalandhar Cantt, Jalandhar City, 91 Sub Area, ITBP, School & Parks, PAP Ground, Opposite DAV College Jalandhar, NIT campus, Adampur, Jalandhar City, Bhogpur, Jalandhar, Sinjh Ground, and Birpind Sidhwa station.
Addressing the gathering, the DC said that it was need of the hour to do maximum plantation to save our depleting environment, especially by roping in youngsters in such drives adding it would instill a responsible attitude in youths towards nature. He further said that it was the duty of all of us to keep the environment clean and green for a healthy life, for which we should increase the greenery.
The DC further lauds the efforts of NGOs, Panchayats, Schools, Youth Clubs, social religious, and government institutions for their vanguard role in this noble cause as without their support this goal was impossible to achieve.
Disclosing further, Divisional Forest Officer Vikram Kundra said that trees of native species like Shisham, Arjuna, Drek, Neem, Kadam, ornamental species, Flowering plants, and others were planted during the drive. He also mentioned that a total of 4,89,500 saplings had been planted in the district to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
