DC DIRECTS HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO SET UP SPECIAL CAMPS FOR UDID CARDS

Jalandhar, June 22 2021  – Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Monday directed the health department to organize special camps in the district to speed up the enrolment of specially-abled persons for the Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID).

Deputy Commissioner told the department to set up maximum camps and create awareness among the general public about camps in advance through Municipal Councillors/Sarpanchs/Asha workers so that the specially-abled persons can take maximum benefit of the schemes.

He stated that he would personally review the progress of the enrolment in routine.

He appealed to all specially-abled persons to bring their Aadhaar Card, Voter Card or any proof of age, passport size photograph and others for UDID in the camps.

The Deputy Commissioner said that UDID cards can also be applied at Sewa Kendras and online personally.

 He said that a panel of orthopaedics, ENT and EYE specialists, psychiatrist, paediatrics, and others physically examine on every Tuesday and Thursday before issuing disability certificate.

He said that the cards are being issued not only to encourage transparency, efficiency, and ease of delivering the government benefits to the person with disabilities but to also ensure uniformity.

The Deputy Commissioner said that cards would also help in streamlining the tracking of the physical and financial progress of beneficiaries at all levels of the hierarchy of implementation – from village level, block level, District level, State level, and National level.

Nodal Officer UDID scheme Dr. Anu said UDID would be having a Quick Response (QR) code that helps in ascertaining the credentials of specially-abled persons.

She added that the card would also help in ensuring free travel to visually challenge government buses besides providing 50% concession to other specially-abled persons in them.

She also stated that series of camps being held in the district under the scheme with first camp on June 23 at Jamsher, followed by similar camps in kartarpur, Noormahal, Nakodar, Shahkot, Lohian Khas, and Mehatpur on 23, 25, 30 June, and 2, 7, 9, 14 July respectively.

She added that under UDID scheme people suffering from blindness, low vision, leprosy cured person, hearing impairment, dwarfism, intellectually disability, mental illness, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, muscular dytrophy, chronic neurological diseases conditions, specific learning diseases, multiple sclerosis, speech and language disability, thalassemia, hemophilia, sickle cell disease, multiple disabilities including deaf and blindness, acid attack victims, and parkinsons disease.
