DC ASKS ELECTION SUPERVISORS TO FAST TRACK ENROLMENT OF YOUNG VOTERS IN 18-19 YEARS AGE GROUP

Jalandhar, 27  November 2021 :  In a bid to ensure maximum enrollment of young voters in the age group of 18-19 years, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori directed election supervisors to further fast track efforts for registration at least 10 youngsters as first time voters by November 30, 2021.

Chairing a review meeting with the 44 supervisors who have not achieved the target of enrolling 10 voters at polling booths falling under their respective areas, the DC directed them to speed the ongoing process adding that they must enroll maximum voters during the electoral roll revision so that not even a single candidate is left out.

Thori further directed the EROs to conduct special voter registration camps at IELTS centre and industrial units so as to ensure none of the eligible citizen was left without their enrollment in the draft list.

The DC mentioned that so far 8076 young voters have been enrolled in thr draft voter list, which is quite below than the fixed target, thereby it was need of the hour to make collective efforts to include maximum youngsters in the voter list.

He also said that Special voters registration camps are being organised in educational institutions, where officials from administration have been facilitating students in this task. Certificate are being obtained from all govt and private senior secondary school stating thay no eligible students in their respectibe school/college was left without enrollment, he said.

The DC called upon youngsters and their parents to come forward in this mammoth drive by registering eligible youths as first time voters as this move would go a long way in further strengthening the ethos of democracy by making our future generation a proactive participants in the electoral procedure.
