Captain’s PLC candidate is now Congress candidate from Nawanshehar
Chandigarh, 30 January 2022 : In what can be perfect example of shifting loyalties in current elections Captain Amarinder Singh led Punjab Lok Congress’s candidate is now the candidate of Indian National Congress from Nawanshehar.
Congress has replaced its sitting MLA Angad Singh with Satvir Singh Palli Jhikki a staunch Amarinder loyalist. Satvir had been a former Chairman of District Planning Board and a former district President of Youth Congress Nawanshehar. Palli Jhikki had joined Captain’s Punjab Lok Congress and was even appointed President of district unit of Amarinder’s party by former Chief Minister on December.
And on January 23 Captain had even announced his candidature from Nawanshehar. But in a strange turn of events Palli Jhikki was nominated as Congress candidate today thereby raising many eyebrows. Denying a ticket to sitting Congress MLA and then giving it to someone who has recently quit the party and is no longer associated with Congress has surprised many party leaders.
Palli Jhikki had been known for his close proximity with Amarinder and in a scenario when former Chief Minister is hell bent on defeating Congress, this move of Congress has came as a major shocker for many congress loyalists. But well placed sources revealed that Congress high command was fed up with working style of sitting MLA and the fact that his wife a legislator from UP in home turf of Sonia Gandhi had recently joined BJP also proved fatal for Angad.
