Releases a portrait to mark World Book Day – 2022
Jalandhar, 23 April 2022 : Commissioner of Police Jalandhar Mr Gurpreet Singh Toor today underscored the need for promotion of reading and sporting activities to channelise unbounded energy of youth in a positive direction.
The Commissioner of Police, while launching a portrait to mark world book day- 2022 prepared by eminent author and Advocate Mr Harpreet Sandhu, said that Books and sports are the best friends of a human being as both play a key role in mental and physical development of a youth respectively.
He said that while sports are needed for healthy life, habit of reading books gives a lot of knowledge to the human beings which is essential for their overall development. Mr Toor said that both these things can play a major role in weaning away youth from menace of drugs thereby making Punjab a frontrunner state in the country.
The Commissioner of Police, who himself is an avid reader and prolific writer having been penned three books, further said that besides being repository of knowledge, books are the best friends of a human being adding that they playing an important role in overall development of an individual. He said that the books since ages have shown us the way of life besides acquainting us with the history. Mr Toor said that youth must develop a habit of reading books so as to stay connected with their glorious past to excel in life.

The Commissioner of Police also lauded Legal luminary Advocate Mr Harpreet Sandhu for taking initiative to prepare the portrait to commemorate the World Book Day. He said that it is the most befitting way in which such days can be celebrated. Mr Toor assured fulsome support and cooperation for all such endeavours.
On the occasion Commissioner of Police also placed the books authored by eminent writers like Harpreet Sandhu, Dr. Surjit Patar, Prof. Amarjit Singh Hayre, Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill, Prof. Anurag Singh, Mr. TPS Sandhu and others in Police lines library Jalandhar.
Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Ms Vatsala Gupta and others.
