Bajwa’s transition- from threatening Channi on behalf of CM to becoming a pivot of anti-Captain drive
Chandigarh, 24 August 2021 : It was last year when Cabinet Minister Charanjeet Singh Channi had came in media that on behalf of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh his Cabinet colleague Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa had threatened him of dire consequences, but situation has changed now as once Captain’s trusted lieutenant Bajwa, along with Channi, is now on frontline to oust CM.
Within an year Bajwa’s transition has raised many eyebrows both within the party and government. Bajwa was part of majha brigade, comprising him, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Sukhbinder Singh Sukh Sarkaria, OP Soni and others, to install Captain as PPCC chief and subsequently the Chief Minister. Till recently he was in the core group of the Chief Minister till he parted ways objecting the dominance of bureaucracy in the government, Bargadi issue, sacrilege issue and others.
Bajwa is highly respected within the party cadres and enjoys confidence of all his party colleagues. He was keen on shifting his base from his constituency Fatehgarh Churian to Batala and had nurtured it from last four years. When tensions between him and CM escalated Captain not only stopped former Batala MLA and staunch critic of Bajwa, Ashwani Sekhri from joining Akali Dal but also made Sekhri a chairman of one of the prestigious corporations of Punjab government.
The final staw between CM and Bajwa came when former removed a close relative of the latter from post of SSP. Bajwa’s nephew a PPS officer was SSP Hoshiarpur but was transferred to relatively poor post at PAP during the recent reshuffle in Police. Miffed Bajwa is now all open to launch a final assault on the CM and today’s meeting to oust CM is seen in this context only.
