Another jolt to Congress likely, senior SC leader from Doaba all set to quit party
Chandigarh, 29 December 2021 : In what can be a major jolt for Congress another senior SC leader from Doaba is all set to bid good bye to party.
The SC leader who hails from a die hard Congress family and had been a Minister in Cabinets of Late Beant Singh, Harcharan Singh Brar, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Captain Amarinder Singh has a good base across the state is known both for his organisational and oratorical capacities.
The leader had been vehemently criticising Captain Amarinder Singh, during his stint as Chief Minister, and had been cornering the party for shielding the culprits of post matric scholarship scheme. Though change of guard has taken place in Congress and government but the senior Congress leader is miffed over the fact that party is non serious about acting against the perpetrators of scholarship scheme.
Meanwhile sensing that the SC strongman from Doaba is disillusioned with his parent party Congress the AAP, BJP and Akali leadership is making beeline to poach the leader. Sources revealed that these parties feel that the SC leader who has considerable influence over the SC voters and Sikhs due to his good command over Punjab politics and religion can act as a game changer for them in Multi cornered contest in coming vidhan Sabha polls. Sources also revealed that a deal is almost final and the SC leader is likely to say good bye to Congress in presence of top leadership of a party in coming few days.
It may be recalled that this leader had joined Congress party as student leader in 1970s and had served the party thrice as MLA besides on several key organisational positions in youth Congress and congress party. He had vehemently fought against terrorism due to which his key family members were also gunned down by separatists. However, he had not left the party and served it relentlessly even when decade long rule of SAD-BJP alliance.
However, experts feel that this will be a major loss to Congress party as in this critical juncture an influential leader of this stature is likely to cause a huge loss to party. Supporters of SC leader cite the 2012 polls when there leader was denied ticket and despite of a pro Congress and anti-incumbency wave against Akali government the Akali-BJP alliance formed the government by wresting around 28 out of total 35 SC seats in the state. This was result of anguish in community for denial of ticket to our leader and situation will be same this time once our leader quits Congress, said one of his supporter.
