Punjab Congress crisis: All eyes on Delhi Durbar now
New Delhi, July 16 2021 : However feeble the Congress High Command may be perceived but still all eyes are now set on ‘Delhi Durbar’ for coronation of the new Congress chief for the Punjab for which battle lines have been drawn between Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and fiery Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Last 24 hours have seen hectic political activity both at Chandigarh and here as Chief Minister, Sidhu and Congress high command have been holding parleys to gauge the situation. Though both Captain and Sidhu have been asserting it as a win-win situation for them but the real key lies in the hands of the high command. It is imperative from the fact that early morning Sidhu had been summoned to national capital by the Durbar.
Sources revealed that though high command has made up its mind to hand over reigns of party to Sidhu. But they don’t want to antagonise Captain, who still remains one of the most popular leaders of Punjab congress. It is also a fact that Captain still enjoys the confidence of most of legislators of state though it is another matter that they think that party’s prospects will be better if they contest under Sidhu.
In such scenario making a balancing act is must for high command for which various formulas have been evolved. Whatever is the outcome of this the fact still remains however feeble it is ‘Delhi Durbar’ is still most powerful as far as Congress is concerned.
