After unfurling the Tricolour at Congress Bhawan here, Sidhu, addressing party’s youth workers, accused the previous SAD-BJP regime of patronising mafias in the state. Sidhu said Punjab used to earn only Rs 40 crore per annum from the mining sector, while Telangana earned Rs 47 crore a week from it.
He further said he would eliminate the word ‘mafia’ from Punjab’s map if he ever got “power of people”.
Navjot Singh Sidhu, PCC President: Have come to change system. Talent without an opportunity is nothing. Meritorious young people should get more chances. I have come to change the system, which keeps the power confined to few.
The PCC president said Tamil Nadu had been earning Rs 36,000 crore from the liquor business despite 50 per cent of consumption as compared to that of Punjab.“But we have been earning just Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 crore for the past 20 years,” Sidhu said.
PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has set up his bed at the Congress Bhawan. The hall attached to his office has been converted into his makeshift rest-cum- personal meeting room.
